The Sacred Valley of the Incas is known for its impressive archaeological remains and for being the most important source of food in the Inca empire. It was also the place where the main subsistence crops of the Empire, such as corn, potatoes and quinoa, were grown. the Sacred Valley was a crucial place for the survival and success of the Inca Empire.
The valley stretches for 60 km and is surrounded by mountains and snow-capped mountains making it a spectacularly beautiful place and vital source of water for the crops grown on the terraces built by the Incas. The Urubamba River, known as the “Sacred River”, runs through the valley and is known for its ruins of cities such as Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Pisac, as well as its agricultural ruins, such as the terraces of Moray and the salt mines of the Maras town.
We pick you up from your hotel and head to CHINCHERO, here we will visit a local community, here you will learn about the textile and the plants that local women used to dye the wool of Llama, Alpaca or sheep
After your visit to Chinchero, we return to the car and go to the archaeological center of Moray. Moray was an Inca agricultural experimental center located in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It featured a series of terraced circular depressions, each at a different temperature, that were used to study the effects of different microclimates on crops.
After the Inca place, you will visit the salt mines of Maras’s town here you will see more than 4000 salty pools where local people get natural salt from. Then you get back to our private car and go to Urubamba where you will have your lunch in a local house.
After your visit to the salt souls you will go to the town of Urubamba where you will collaborate with two local projects to help local families in the Sacred Valley. Here we have 2 options to visit.
Option 1. Visit a local house, where the mother of the family will cook a delicious lunch for you.
Option 2. Visit a restaurant that gives work to single mothers who have children with physical limitations and Down syndrome.
After your delicious lunch you will head to the town of Ollantaytambo, here you will visit the archaeological center that has the same name as the town and after your visit you will decide whether to take the train to Aguas Calientes or return to the city of Cusco.
Chinchero: beautiful town where the women will show you all the techniques of dyeing and yarn of llama, vicuña, alpaca, and baby alpaca fiber.
Moray: Explore the mysterious circular platforms and learn the reason for their shape and position.
Salt Mines: Discover how the Inka descendants extract salt from a mountain in a natural way.
Urubamba: Here we visit a local house where your lunch will be cooked with the products harvested from their garden.
Ollantaytambo: Visit the living Inca city and explore its monuments that have survived the time.
